Shared solar projects are driving real economic value in communities across the country. A new report shows that a typical 5-megawatt installation can generate nearly $14 million in local economic activity and support around 100 jobs across construction, maintenance, and related services. In Virginia, shared solar helps expand access to clean energy. It allows renters, apartment dwellers, and others unable to install rooftop panels to participate in the energy economy while lowering their utility bills. As demand continues to rise, shared solar offers a practical, community-scale option that supports affordability and local decision-making.

Halifax County has shown why and how local leadership matters in energy innovation. This week, Energy Right presented Halifax County with the County of the Year Award presented at the Legislative Reception back in January, recognizing the County's impressive achievements in supporting an all-of-the-above energy strategy. Halifax's forward-thinking policies have already allowed for over 800 MW of permitted solar projects, complementing the existing Clover Power Station and NOVEC Biomass facility, and generating substantial tax revenue to benefit local communities. Virginia needs more counties taking Halifax County’s balanced, pragmatic approach—promoting local input, diverse energy solutions, and long-term economic stability. Congratulations Halifax, for powering Virginia’s future!

Dominion Energy forecasts a 50% hike in electricity bills by 2039, driven by increased demand and population growth. To meet Virginia’s energy needs, Dominion plans investments across solar, offshore wind, and natural gas—an all-of-the-above approach aimed at ensuring reliability amid expansions and rising electrification. However, consumer advocates have raised concerns about affordability. State regulators must now weigh these proposed rate increases against consumer impacts, as questions remain over how these decisions will shape Virginia's energy future and commitment to carbon-free targets.
